Finalist in 'The Fun Theory' competition

Usable Machine is participating in an international design competition sponsored by Volkswagen, Thefuntheory.com. Our contribution was one of 11 finalists. 

The competition is based on the thought that making things fun to do is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better.


Our contribution is called 'Battery Pinball' and is aimed at making it fun to return used batteries:

Can we get people to recycle batteries by making it fun?

We propose to rebuild a pinball machine to accept batteries, rather than coins, as credits to play the game. This could be an innovation that has a place in local arcades and shopping centers.
